The problem with the ER is that, for so many people, it’s their family doctor. Our insurance just announced that they are going to start billing their customers for unnecessary visits to the ER. Hopefully you saw a triage nurse and you were placed ahead of the kids with sore throats. I took one of my boys to the ER after he fell and hit his head. We saw the triage nurse, were sent to a different waiting room, and saw a doctor within 10 minutes of our arrival. Of course, it all depends on your malady. I had an infection once in my finger and I could almost see the swelling advancing up towards my hand it was moving so fast . I went to the ER and sat for 4-5 hours. I finally asked the nurse if I should just go home and call my doctor in the morning. She said, “I can’t tell you what to do, but that might not be a bad idea.” So I left.

I went to the walk in clinic at the hospital and they referred me to the ER, I only waited 10 min when I got there. I'm in blood work now. I believe the stays and street urchins are still waiting..

They will be waiting for hours. Sounds like the system is working for you so far. Get better.

Last time I went to the ER was for my girlfriend who’s allergic to peanuts. After they gav e her a steroid we sat in the waiting room for two hours before we could talk to a doctor. In that time the same guy asked me for money like 10 times and hit on my girlfriend. I said something to the security guard who basically told me unless the guy was getting violent, he’s allowed to be there too. Pardon me for assuming we’d be free from harassment in a hospital waiting room but apparently street urchins have rights too.

The ER is the best place for someone to hit on your GF, that way when you break his face there is someone there to put it back together.

Ye’, but you don’t want someone to put it back together. You want it to remain as a warning. Lol.

A&E ( Accident & Emergency, what we call E.R.) is a nightmare anywhere in the world late at night or weekends. That’s when people are more likely to be intoxicated and do stupid things or have incidents as a result of the intoxication.
I hope your okay and you get some anti-biotics and if necessary some anti-inflammatories for your infection.
get well soon mate.

In my experience Urgent Care is 100000x better than the ER at 1/10th the price.
Doctors trained just as well, good equipment, and if you really need to they’ll tell you to go to the ER but they’re less likely to.
I dunno, I feel like too many GPs are just like “go to the ER” because they’re scared to get sued while Urgent Care is like “haha, don’t worry, take some of these and if you’re still sick call back tomorrow”.

This dude looked like a face breaking really wouldn’t phase him much. With all the crack, he probably can’t feel his face anyway

When I took my dad to the ER back in April, the wa iting room was full of teens and people in their 20's who had overdosed . I’ve never seen so many people puking in 1 plac e. I don't know if that's how it always is, or someone sold some bad drugs that week.

I once saw a girl at the ER with what appeared to be a sprained wrist with minor swelling, and her mom was complaining that they’d been there for 7 hours... no shit, Sherlock! Did ya try to put some ice on it first?
At the same time, the service can be inconsistent. If your child has a fever above X degrees and is weak or limp, you should go straight to the ER... and then you sit there and wait 3 hours because apparently it’s no bi g deal? WTF?

I’ve only been to the ER once but came in an ambulance as a trauma case. No waits, no crowds! (I’m very thankful that most of my self-induced emergencies are perfect for urgent care).

It was urgent care that sent me to the ER. But I agree I always prefer urgent care!
